2021 is finally here and everyone is focused on New Year resolutions and becoming their new and improved self! It’s just something about the new year that gets you feeling extra motivated to reach your goals…right! Whether it’s personal, professional or fitness we all have things want to accomplish and the new year is the time we commit to doing it. I’m all for #newyearnewgooals but more importantly, I believe the new year is a time to stop and take a moment to really think about the things that have held us back from reaching our goals in the past. Here are 3 things to consider for not just setting goals at the start of the year but really making them happen:

BE REALISTIC!

You can’t get from Point A to Point Z overnight so make sure you are setting realistic goals that are actually achievable. When you set goals that are unrealistic it can leave you feeling discouraged and cause you to completely give up on that goal altogether. Chances are you won’t go from an exercise lifting a 5lb weight to lifting 25lbs in a week. A realistic goal would be to increase the weight from 5lbs to 7.5lbs after consistently performing that exercise with good form.

DON’T GO TOO HARD!

Are you the type that starts something new going all in and sometimes you end up overdoing it…just a little…like starting the year going to the gym 7 days a week?? T This goes back to my 1st point…make sure you are setting realistic goals and also don’t go overboard since this type of overachievement mentality could lead to burnout. Instead of pushing yourself to go 7 days a week in the gym try hitting 4-5 days of good sweaty workouts.

PUT A PLAN IN PLACE!

You know that old saying…”If you fail to plan then you plan to fail”…well it’s true!  As you are thinking about all the amazing things you want to achieve throughout the New Year make sure you have a plan on how you will get there! Whether it’s weight loss, muscles gains, better diet or healthier lifestyle, your fitness plan will be your roadmap to success in making sure you crush your goals!
